Check the system

Is the power supply to your boiler switched on? There is usually an electrical isolation switch for the heating system, (it is often near to the boiler or the time clock) so make sure the switch is turned to the ‘on’ position.

Is the gas supply to your property on? Check the Emergency Control Valve (ECV) by the gas meter; sometimes you can accidentally knock it to the off position. There will be a label on the ECV indicating which way is ‘on’.

Is your boiler turned on? Make sure the operational lights are illuminated, and the display looks normal.

If your gas boiler has a pilot light, ensure it is lit. If not, re-light it by following the manufacturer’s instructions.

If your boiler does not have a pilot light, look for a warning light telling you to ‘reset’ it.

Does your boiler have a warning light or a message indicating low water pressure? This can be solved by following the manufacturer’s instructions to refill it.

Is your timer or programmer turned on? Check that the display is present, and the correct time is showing.

Is your room thermostat set to a high enough temperature? Make that your thermostat is set high enough to trigger the heating, most houses are comfortable at around 20 or 21 degrees.

If you have checked all of the above items and still have no heating, then it is time to think about contacting a Gas Safe Registered engineer.
