Santa Says 1 in 6 Gas Appliances Are Unsafe

It’s just a matter of weeks now until Santa fills up his sleigh and sets off to deliver all of the Christmas presents. It is also time for a warning after Gas Safe Register identified that up to 1 in 6 gas appliances are unsafe, putting your family (and Santa) at risk this Christmas.

December is the time of year when the most unsafe gas appliances are discovered in UK homes, with one in six cookers, boilers and fires that the fire and rescue service investigated in the last five years being unsafe and carrying risks such as gas leaks, explosions, fires and deadly carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Jonathan Samuel, the chief executive at Gas Safe Register, said: “Christmas is an exciting time of the year for families to get together and relax at home. However, Christmas can quickly go wrong if gas appliances stop working or are unsafe. Our data shows December to be a month where many unsafe gas appliances are found. We urge families to ensure that they get an annual gas safety check in time for Christmas so that they can enjoy the festive season with peace of mind.”
